image, you can clearly see the Isle of Sheppey and Swale estuary. Further eastwards along
the Thames estuary is Whitstable, Herne Bay and Margate. Following the coast round and
south into the English Channel, we pass Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Deal. Deal was the
favoured landing site during the first Roman invasions. As the coastline turns
south-westwards, the harbour wall of Dover can be seen. A short distance from Dover is
Folkestone and Hythe. |
