mixture1.jpg (37251 bytes) Norman, Vikings and Saxons prepare to charge the audience. This was done to give some impression of how frightening it could be to have thousands of heavily armed warriors running at you in a real battle.
weapons.jpg (34044 bytes) One of the offshoots of reliving the past, is the craft fayres. They allow you to purchase items that you cannot usually get at the supermarket. On this stool is a selection of Viking, Saxon or Norman helmets. Swords of different construction. You can also buy a Danish battleaxe head. Unfortunately, you must supply your own handle.
saxon5.jpg (41310 bytes) Another photograph of a Saxon soldier. Chainmail was very expensive in those times. It is unlikely many of Harold's troops could afford such protection. Note again - the three implements of battle. Sword, battleaxe and shield.
norm10.jpg (53410 bytes) Close up view of some Norman's with their kite shields, three-quarter chainmail with neck protection.
stamf4.jpg (40785 bytes) The battle rages.
cook.jpg (45923 bytes) A cook explains how food is prepared. This photograph shows a cauldron over a log fire. Cooking utensils such as these were recovered from the Sutton Hoo ship burial.
