Norman, Vikings and Saxons prepare to charge the audience. This was done to give some impression of how frightening it could be to have thousands of heavily armed warriors running at you in a real battle. |

One of the offshoots of reliving the past, is the craft fayres. They allow you to purchase items that you cannot usually get at the supermarket. On this stool is a selection of Viking, Saxon or Norman helmets. Swords of different construction. You can also buy a Danish battleaxe head. Unfortunately, you must supply your own handle. |

Another photograph of a Saxon soldier. Chainmail was very expensive in those times. It is unlikely many of Harold's troops could afford such protection. Note again - the three implements of battle. Sword, battleaxe and shield. |
