I wonder if you would know the answer to this question ?
After the fighting man standard was handed to the Pope, what
became of it ?
Is it still around somewhere ?
If you know the answer, please let me know. (This question has
been bugging me for ages)

Dear David,

Thank you for your comments on my Battle of Hastings 1066 site.

To locate the standards from this battle are, to the likes of myself,
akin to finding the Holy Grail. I have no idea if they are still in
existence. If they were, I am sure they would have been returned to
us by now. ( like we have returned the Elgin Marbles ). I have been
trying to locate a good photograph or diagram of the standards for
my site. As soon as I do - they will be included.
