Eastern
rack and pinion railway to the top of the cliffs. Another known as the
western railway takes you to the location of Hastings Castle, originally
erected by William the Conqueror in 1066.

see the white cliffs and the natural curve of the coast, making it a good
choice for William to land prior to moving inland and the start of his
invasion proper. |
