Tostig

Earl of Northumbria ( 1055 - 1065 ) (d 1066). Became earl on the death of Siward. His reign created unrest and rebellion leading to his replacement by Morcar in 1065. Tostig fled to Flanders where he raised a mercenary army to pillage the south of England. He became an ally of the Dane, Harald Hardrada and invaded the north with him. He was killed by his brothers army at the battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.
