Roman Legion

A Roman Legion consisted of about 5 or 6000 soldiers. In 43 A.D, Claudius sent 4 legions to Britain with which to all intents and purposes conquered it. The only resistance of any note was that of Boudicea in 61 A.D. As time went by, the defence of the country was undertaken by indigenous Celts and those of Roman/British stock. Reinforcements were sent from Rome when Britain came under any serious attack or rebellion.
