Paulinus St

Missionary from Rome ( d 644 ). Arrived in England in 601 as an assistant to St Augustine. He became a bishop in 625 and converted king Edwin of Northumbria to Christianity in 627. He later became bishop of York. Following the death of Edwin in 627, he left to become the new bishop of Rochester in Kent and finally archbishop in 634.
