King of Northumbria ( 651 - 670 ) ( d 670 ). Oswy became king of Bernicia ( half of Northumbria ) in 642. To unite the other half, Deira, he killed Oswin in 651. He defeated Penda in 655 and became bretwalda. He supported the Roman over Celtic stand at the synod of Whitby.
