Moot

Anglo Saxon public meeting where most individuals of a community were legally obliged to attend. its purpose was to decide legal and administrative matters. It was unusual in that it was always attended by witnesses. It was a place where you could make comment. The word moot is used today in the phrase, to make a moot point.
