Macbeth

King of Scots ( c 1005 - 1057 ) ( r 1040 - 1057 ). Macbeth, son of the earl of Moray and grandson of Malcolm II. Was at odds with Duncan I because he felt his claim to the throne was more valid. He enforced his claim by killing him. In 1045 he killed Duncan I father and was himself killed by Duncan's son, Malcolm Canmore. Considering his murderous history, Macbeth was a religious man and made a pilgrimage to Rome in 1050. Macbeth was the subject of the Shakespeare play.
