Wife of Aethelred the Unready (m 1002 - 1016 ) and daughter of Richard I of Normandy. Following the death of Aethelred, she married Canute ( m 1017 - 1035 ). Using her marital status, she attempted to seize the thrown for her son Harthacanute ( Harthacnut ) - which failed. She returned when he was finally made king in 1040.
